Sinopsis:En el norte de Texas, un joven cae en una grieta del suelo mientras juega con sus amigos y éstos contemplan cómo es atacado por un cáncer negro que también infecta a dos bomberos que intentaban rescatarle. Mulder y Scully, apartados de los expedientes-x, inspeccionan un edificio federal de Dallas que termina derrumbándose a causa de un atentado. Entre los escombros aparecen los cuerpos del niño y los dos bomberos. Un confidente, el doctor Kurtzweil pone a Mulder en la pista de una conspiración para ayudar a los alienígenas a colonizar la Tierra.
